Lonnie Dell Hye, beloved father, son, brother, and veteran, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 72 in Monte Vista, Colorado. Born on September 3, 1952, in Wichita, Kansas, Lonnie lived a life marked by love, friendship and service.
A proud member of the United States Air Force, he enlisted on June 1, 1970, serving his country during the Vietnam War before his honorable discharge on April 2, 1974. Lonnie's commitment to his family and community was as steadfast as his service to his country.
He is survived by his children, Sara Campbell, Ian Hye, and Emmaline Berry; his previous spouse, Teresa Lewis; his grandchildren, Ronan Berry, Reese Berry, and Kilian Campbell; his mother, Gloria Hye; brother Donald Hye; and sister Cindy Chewning.
Lonnie loved hunting, fishing and skiing. He shared these passions with his children. He raised his family in Gunnison, CO, to ensure his kids knew and loved the mountains like he did. Lonnie had a passion for foreign cars and motorcycles. Through this interest, he forged a number of life-long friendships. Lonnie will be deeply missed but forever remembered as a man who touched the lives of many with his humor, wisdom, and compassionate heart. Rest in peace, dear Lonnie. Your journey has inspired us all.
