Susan Greig, 59, of Santa Fe, passed away on October 11th following a tragic car accident. She was born on October 9, 1965, in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is preceded in death by her mother, Beryl Tucker.
Susan exhibited an unparalleled thirst for knowledge and was a dedicated educator whose career spanned over 35 years. Susan attained her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Cape Town, a master's degree in educational leadership from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon, and a master's degree in school building leadership from St. John's University in New York.
She began her teaching career in environmental science, English and drama at the high school level in Cape Town, South Africa. She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1997, later teaching high school English in Bluffton, South Carolina, and Brooklyn, New York. In 2018, her adventurous spirit took her to Islamabad, Pakistan where she taught English for two years. In 2020, she returned to the United States and made her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She initially served as Dean of Students at Milagro Middle School before becoming the Assistant Principal.
In every place she has lived, Susan has found community in her local church, often taking on leadership roles working with children and families. She enjoyed serving her community and most recently joined the board of STEM Santa Fe.
Alongside Susan's love for learning, she enjoyed creating her own beautiful clothes, exploring nature, cozying up next to a fire and dancing the night away. She had a cheeky sense of humor and was able to find laughter in all situations. Susan will be remembered for her smile, her vivacious spirit, can do attitude and the joy she exhibited and shared with all who knew her. Susan's legacy will be her zest for life and the fearlessness in which she took on any challenges that came her way.
Her loss is deeply felt by her family, friends, former students and colleagues. She is survived and celebrated by her children, Katherine and Alexandra Greig, her maternal Aunt Roxanne Cargill and Uncle Peter Weston, her brothers Sean and Gregory Tucker and her loving partner Mark
A service celebrating Susan's wonderful life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 2 pm in the St. Francis Auditorium of the New Mexico Museum of Art where those who knew and loved Susan are invited to remember a life that, albeit short, was truly a gift to us all.
